I. Introduction
Are They Hooping (ATH), available in the iOS App Store helps users find local gyms and connects basketball players around the globe.
Upon receiving polarized user feedback, I worked as the sole UX/UI Designer and Junior UI Developer to create an empathetic and consistent design that attracts basketball players between 17 and 30 yr olds.

II. The Design Process
I previously worked as the Director of Design of Collective Minds Inc. (CMi), the company that created Are They Hooping (ATH). I was asked to redesign the user interface the decrease user pain points and create a product competitive enough for the basketball app market.
I conducted competitor analysis for market research, along with usability and heuristic evaluations of the ATH app. I also conducted a stakeholder interview with the creator of the application to gain insight into the product’s needs as it pertains to enhancing functionality.
Next, I defined the problem and recognized valuable experience through consistent ATH branding through typography and iconography. Upon gathering user insight, I realizeduser retention increase for the ATH after implementing a design catered to their users' needs.
I created an I Wish, I Like, What If diagram and Feature Prioritization Matrix to construct the information architecture of the redesign. I also created a UX Scenario to gather a better understanding of the ideal user of the ATH app. Lastly, I created a User Flow Diagram and ideated paper wireframe user interfaces.
Due to the nature of the redesign, I did not have to create an entire clickable prototype. Instead, I created seven digital mockup screens for every screen of the app. The final screens incorporated a consistent color scheme, ATH branding throughout the product, and a smoother user flow.
We conducted user testing via Testflight, this enabled the company to gather user insights from a large database of their targeted audience. Overall, users who participated in testing were satisfied with the UI design changes and noted the product branding has a greater presence throughout the app.
III. Conclusion
This mobile app redesign is currently available in the iOS App Store! We've made several updates to the design since the completion of this project. Updates to this app are made constantly, to keep up with current market trends and to continue increasing user retention of the Are They Hooping - Pickup Basketball App.
